It is impossible to imagine the work of a surgical hospital without surgical treatment, and this is the hard work of many people.

Together with the surgeons, day-night workers and nurses are working, providing assistance at any time of the day. Their work is often invisible to patients, but without their skillful and hardworking hands it is impossible to perform a single operation. Medicine is constantly advancing, surgical technologies are changing, and employees of the operating department need to acquire new skills and knowledge.

As an independent structural unit, the branch was opened in November 2001. Until this year, the operating unit was part of the surgical department.

The branch occupies two 5 floors with a total area of 2180 m². There are 2 units in the department - aseptic for 6 operating rooms and a septic unit for 3 operating rooms. In addition, new operating rooms have been opened for ophthalmologic operations and in the emergency department to provide emergency care for critically ill patients. The operating rooms are provided with a centralized supply of medical gases of the Dryger system, the supply and exhaust ventilation system and the Microclimate system work to maintain a constant temperature and humidity.

The department is well provided with material and technical equipment, and every year all the new equipment that meets the latest requirements of modern medicine is acquired and mastered. Currently there are 6 endovideosurgery devices for conducting minimally invasive surgical interventions, electrocoolers, 10 vacuum aspirators, a large number of anesthetic and respiratory equipment, including the latest generation, various surgical instruments, etc. For sterilization of instruments, a Sterrad plasma sterilizer has been obtained, allowing to process even glass, plastic and fiber optics products. In the past year alone, the operating department received 2 general-purpose operating tables, an ophthalmological operating table, 4 shadowless lamps, an eye microscope, the Gimmi endovideo complex, 2 electric pumps, a nephroscope, a cystofibroscope, and 4 X-ray viewers. Intraoperative blood reinfusion using the Cell Saver 5+ device was introduced, which allows to save and return the patient's own blood.

Primus anesthesia and respiratory apparatus have been purchased - an anesthesiologist’s workplace complete with an evaporator for sevoflurane. In addition, an operating microscope “Leica M 525 F40” for microsurgical operations and a cerebral-somatic oximetric system, a urethro-rhenoscope, were obtained.

Currently, the department provides more than 7 thousand surgical interventions per year in patients with a wide variety of diseases.

Together with the surgeons, a new type of laparoscope with touch screens, which allow video recording of operations, a new method of conducting proctologic surgical interventions using ligation of hemorrhoids, the Ultrasonic surgical scalpel “Ultra sycion” and the argon electrocoagulator “SORING” were acquired and implemented.

In the neurosurgical department during surgical interventions on the spine, titanium-nickel transplants began to be used, which make it possible to operate in a less traumatic way and provide early rehabilitation of patients (activation already on the 20th day after the operation). Microdiscectomies and endovideodecectomies with spinal disc hernias were introduced. In 2009, an operating microscope was obtained for the neurosurgical operations of the Carl Zeiss system - the best optics in the world. In 2011, the system for transpedicular spinal fixation “CDHORIZON” was received and put into operation. In 2015, the regional akimat acquired a new microscope for microsurgical operations.

Arthroscopy with the use of endovideo technology has been introduced in the traumatology department; since 2011, traumatologists have performed blocking osteosynthesis for fractures of the femur and humerus using an electron-optical converter. Since 2012, a prosthetic hip joint has been widely used.

Together with ophthalmologists, operations on the implantation of an artificial crystalline lens were mastered, the phonoemulsifier “ALCON INFINITI” was acquired and mastered, which allows to remove cataracts with minimal trauma.

In the urology department, transurethral adenomectomy (TUR) was introduced with the acquisition of the SIEMENS resectoscope, and the range of surgical interventions with the acquisition of the Auriga medical laser was greatly expanded, allowing for highly specialized surgical interventions not only in the kidneys, ureters and urinary bladder, but also in surgical gynecological procedures practice. The use of the tape "Jynecare TVT" during surgical interventions in case of stress bladder is introduced into the work.

With the opening of the cardiology center, the department employees began to master highly specialized medical care. For cardiac surgery, it is fully equipped with instrumentation and instrumentation 1 operating room: illuminators, anesthetic and respiratory equipment, cardiopulmonary bypass (SEC) “SECHRIST –STOCKERT”, tracking equipment, disposable consumables. Operational sister Zhapakhova J. was trained in Lithuania. More than 430 open heart surgeries have been performed in 3 years.

It is difficult to list all the new things that have been introduced and mastered in the operating room over the past 20 years. The team is updated, new types of surgical treatment are being introduced, new equipment is being opened and new departments are being opened, methods of sterilization and processing are changing, and the staff of the operating department together with the surgeons are learning new surgical technologies.

As long as there is a surgical service, there is an operating room. And if the training of a nurse of surgical departments is a long and responsible process, then the preparation of an operating nurse is many years of hard work, the acquisition of knowledge, and, moreover, education of responsibility, dedication to the profession, extensive knowledge and, finally, just physical endurance. Therefore, probably, it is in the operating room that once came, the employees remain devoted to their profession for many years.
