The department is a highly specialized inpatient unit in the multidisciplinary regional hospital. Among the patients, the whole spectrum of renal pathology is presented - both the actual kidney disease and renal parenchyma lesions against the background of a urological, diverse therapeutic, obstetric pathology.

The main medical and diagnostic activities of the department:

Differential diagnosis and immunosuppressive therapy of chronic glomerulonephritis, systemic diseases with kidney damage (systemic lupus erythematosus, systemic vasculitis, amyloidosis), secondary nephropathy, diabetic nephropathy, nephroprotective therapy, treatment of patients with end-stage chronic renal failure.

Examination of patients includes, in addition to routine laboratory methods, screening ultrasound examination of the kidneys and abdominal organs, X-ray and electrocardiographic studies.

Immunological studies are widely used. All patients, in the absence of contraindications, are x-ray, and, if necessary, ultrasound of the renal vessels, CT scan, MRI. For the purpose of morphological verification of the diagnosis of systemic diseases, active types of idiopathic glomerulonephritis and suspected amyloidosis, patients are referred by quota to the NNMC in Astana.

In many cases, ultrasound of the pelvis, prostate, thyroid gland, echocardiogram, endoscopic examinations, therapeutic and diagnostic pleural punctures, and the study of the hormonal profile are also performed.

In accordance with modern approaches to the pathogenetic treatment of glomerulonephritis, in the overwhelming majority of cases, corticosteroid-cytostatic therapy is carried out, mainly with the use of pulse therapy with metipred and cyclophosphamide.

The department also actively introduces modern methods of immunosuppressive treatment - therapy with sandimmune-neoral and mycophenolates in glomerular pathology.

Patients with terminal chronic renal failure and their complications are treated, hemodialysis patients are trained (renal replacement therapy), an arteriovenous fistula is applied, and dialysis is selected.
